What
is Space City Mixer?
Space City Mixer (SCM) is a 20,000 member-strong
Seattle area social organization comprised of
people between the ages of 24 and 49. SCM’s mission
is
twofold:
1) Plan engaging, and interactive events and
activities that people enjoy 2) AND; through
those events, introduce and highlight to our
membership the unique (obvious and hidden) opportunities,
venues, restaurants, landmarks, and the natural
wonders of Seattle . . . which we love!
What Types of Events Are Offered?
New events are being added all the time.
The goal is be as creative as possible. Currently,
there are cocktail parties, dinner outings, wine
tastings,
museum outings, theatre, networking events, brunches,
movie nights, ski trips, brunches, art walks,
yoga classes, theme parties (Mardi Gras, Halloween
and New Year's Eve) and cooking classes. Most
of the time the events are open to everyone.
Occasionally, an event will have a targeted group:
Womens' Brunch, Events just for Couples, Events
just for Singles, etc. The idea is to be experimental
...offer outings that are popular and also that
are a little unusual and/or experimental. Click
here to see where we
have held events in the past.
What Does the Membership Look Like?
The demographic is people in their mid-20's
to mid-to-late 40's, there are also people in
the group who are younger and older than this
range. Probably the best way of explaining the
group is that they're interesting, intelligent,
savvy and friendly people. All who enjoy meeting
new people and socializing
with those they know. Some have re-located here
to Seattle for a professional opportunity, others
have been here awhile but enjoy going out, trying
out new Seattle hotspots (bars, restaurants,
classes, etc) and expanding their social circle.
Is This Group Just for Singles?
Not at all, SCM is open to everyone
(friends, co-workers, girlfriends, boyfriends,
partners, married couples, significant others,
the unattached - essentially anyone who's a Seattle
professional and likes to come to the events).
The main idea is to meet fun people and make
new friends. If you're bright, interesting, friendly
and like to have fun, you'll fit right in! Sometimes
we will offer a "singles only event" but we will
always indicate this in the event description.
Otherwise SCM events are open to everyone.
How Big Is The Group?
The membership consists of over 20,000
people. Over 200 new people add themselves to
the list each month. It's constantly growing.
How To Sign Up?
Membership
is free! Go to the Sign
Up link on the web site. Input your information
and then you'll automatically be added to the
master Email List. You should start receiving
the invites right away. You could receive up
to 1-2 invites a week - if you find it's too
many, you can email us and ask to reduce the
amount of emails.
Are There Costs Involved?
Space City Mixer is committed to keeping
the membership free. To do so, we rely heavily
on our advertisers. This is why there are ads
on the Web site and emails, and why you might
see products highlighted at our events. We know
ads aren't always fun to see, but our advertisers
are the "fuel" that keeps SCM going.
So please, if you like SCM...support SCM advertisers
- the advertisers support SCM and in turn SCM
can keep the membership free!
Advertising / Sponsorship
Speaking of advertising ...if you're
interested in learning more about
how to advertise with SCM and what it entails,
read more about it.
How Does One Pay for the Events?
Through a check or PayPal. PayPal is
an online service that allows people to pay online
using a credit card. PayPal involves a processing
fee. Go to the Payment Section
for more info on payments. Refunds are available
7 days before the day of the event. Occasionally
refunds are not offered for an event but this
will be stated on the invite (it's usually when
it's a large event (75 or more guests) and keeping
track of payments and refunds would be too hard).
This Group Looks Fun, is There a Way to Get More
Involved?
Yes! We are always looking for new people
who would like to get involved in SCM events.
Being a host is fun and guarantees that you'll
meet lots of people at the event. We also throw
EBAM events ("Events By A Member").
That means that SCM members plan their own events
for the calendar. It's a great way to exercise
one's "event planning" creativity.
If you're interested in learning about either
option, please send
an email!
Online Payment vs Check Payments?
However, because check payments take
a few days to arrive, an event can fill up while
a check is in transit. If you have your heart
set on attending a particular event, your best
bet is to make an online payment.
I'm a Newcomer, What Do You Suggest for My First
Event?
For a first-timer, often the smaller
events are the most appealing. We suggest the
Red Table Dinners (group dinners where specific
groups switch seats during the courses), cooking
classes and ladies' brunch for the women. The
monthly Pub Mixers are our largest events. Unless
you're comfortable with large crowds, this might
be an event that you'd prefer to wait on or attend
with a friend. Finally, all the events are different,
With a membership consisting of thousands, each
event has a different selection of people attending
it. The events vary too as they all consist of
different venues and often some are being offered
for the first time. So we recommend trying at
least 3 events to get a complete introduction
to Space City Mixer, the people and the events.
We think you'll find your niche!
How Do I Contact an SCM Member?
Often people meet at an SCM event and
think only later to have asked them for their
contact info. In order to ensure members their
privacy, SCM can not give out emails or phone
numbers of other members. However we have our
very popular Member
Connect section! Here you can post a profile
or look for a profile of someone you have recently
met. Members check 'Member Connect' often. So
we encourage members to post their profile! You
never know when someone who you met at an event
would like to connect with you!
Will All Emails Receive Responses?
At
this point, SCM receives over 100 emails a day!
SCM would love to return a thoughtful response
to each one but there are just so many and the
ones concerning an upcoming event or a payment
must receive precedence. We do our best to answer
your questions and we definitely listen to all
feedback. Just please just keep in mind that
not every email can get a response...at least
at this time. And it's very okay to send an email
twice as a reminder!
Not Receiving the Weekly Emails?
Spam filters are great but often filter
out SCM emails. If you are not receiving the
weekly emails and want to, check your Junk Mail
folder. They could be in there. You also might
have to manually tell your email program to accept
emails from "email@spacecitymixer.com"
