Sunset Sail on the Obsession (July 19)
Welcome to one of SCM's most popular Summer events! It is sailboat ride on the "Obsession" - a 70 ft sailboat out on the open waters of Puget Sound - a scenic and exciting experience!

Imagine a full boat with friendly people all around you, the wind in your hair, sitting back and watching the beautiful Seattle scenery all around you. It's the quintessential Seattle experience!

The evening works like this: We all meet at the dock, Pier 54 of the Seattle waterfront. We board the sailing boat (a 70 ft yacht with a large open deck). Then, we take off and enjoy the ride. As we glide around the Sound, take in the sights of a sunset journey and socialize with the people around you! Depending on the wind, we might experience some swells in the water (hold on and have fun!).

There will be bottled water and light snacks available on the boat. Guests are asked to bring a bottle of wine, six-pack of beer or soft drinks with them on the boat. You'll find quite a bit of sharing going on during the boat ride.

Every trip, we'll get a few requests from people asking if they can bring their own snacks/goodies. Although it's not required, you may. If yo

Womens Brunch (40 & Over) in Jul
Just the women for this one! Catch up on your girl talk and meet some other interesting women! Join us at Anthonys Homeport in Shilshole on the scenic waterfront for a late morning brunch. Pre-mingling time will start at 10:30 am accompanied OJ; we will be seated for a tasty brunch overlooking the beautiful waterfront at 11:00 am. The suggested (not mandated just suggested) age range for this event is 40 & Over.

STAY IN TOUCH LIST: So the group can stay in touch. It happens frequently that SCM receives emails saying "I met all these fabulous women at the brunch but didn't get around to asking for their contact info!" Well, the answer is that SCM brings its laptop computer and those at the brunch input their contact information. Afterwards, SCM sends all those on the list that list! Many SCM friendships have resulted from women following up with this list.

BACKGROUND: SCM thought that it would be fun to have a brunch just for the women. Many women have said that they wished that they knew other female friends in order that they have someone with whom to attend parties, Pub Mixers, explore Seattle, travel elsewhere, etc. A lot of people have moved here for jobs from out of town and it's not always easy to find your peers when you work long hours and don't have co-workers that you necessarily want to have as friends. So this is the idea behind the brunches - to eat a tasty brunch and meet some fun, smart & interesting women!

When:  Sunday, Jul. 20, 2008 at 10:30 AM (10:30 AM Mingling / 11:00 AM Brunch)
Cost:  $29.95 Includes Kalani Coffee, assorted muffins, breakfast entree (served with fresh fruit and toast), price includes gratuity & tax.

Eastside Mingle at Ultra Lounge!     Free Event!
It's time for another Eastside Mingle! Ultralounge is the sleek, chic companion space within The Parlor with a Vegas-style sophistication all its own.
This posh lounge is lined with plush booth seating, made private with hanging veils of nickel plated beads, softened with ambient spot lighting, chill with downtempo beats from a dedicated deejay booth, and engaging with a catwalk and banquet area for "haute events" and catered affairs.

This is the perfect spot for our Eastside Mingle as we sip, savor, mix and mingle.

Reward yourself after a hard day's work! Come down for a cocktail and meet some new & interesting people. Tell your friends and join us!

BACKGROUND: This is a free event. It's the most unstructured event in that the group just meets at the selected bar, like a large "bar night." If this is your first Space City Mixer event, this is a large one and there isn't much structure - people just arrive, get a cocktail and start mingling. Otherwise, the other events are smaller, more structured and conducive to meeting people for the first time.
A nice SCM Organizer will also be standing at a table near the entrance. If you're new and/or have questions about SCM, come on by. We'd love to meet you and introduce you to some other guests.

Come on down and meet some great people on the Eastside!

Red Table Dinner at Sazerac
This Red Table Dinner will take place at Sazerac Restaurant. This Red Table is open to everyone.

SAZERAC, where the motto is "serious fun and damn good food"
A hit with Seattle's dining public since opening in 1997, Sazerac's open, high-ceilinged room, elevated exhibition kitchen and vibrantly designed interior make for a stylish destination. Executive Chef Jason McClure highlights our southern Louisiana roots in the clean and flavorful food found on the menu while incorporating the best of the Northwest using only the season's freshest ingredients. Dishes like the mouthwatering Flash Fried Catfish with Lemon Whipped Potatoes and Jalapeno-Lime Meunière celebrate the focus on food, while "refusing to take ourselves too seriously". And southern hospitality has made its way to the northwest; the restaurant staff makes everyone feel at home, visitors and locals alike.

MENU:
First Course
Choose one of the following:

Cup of Asparagus Soup
with Bellwether Farms Crecenza Toast
or
Hearts of Romaine "Caesar Style"
with Grana Padano and Roasted Garlic Crostini

Second Course
Choose one of the following:

Free Range Chicken Breast
stuffed with brie, spinach and smoked bacon
or
Flash Fried Catfish
with jalapeno-lime brown butter and lemon-whipped potato
or
Ricotta Dumplings
with asparagus, baby tomatoes and pecorino

Dessert Course
Chef's Selection

RED TABLE BACKGROUND: This is one of SCM's most popular events! This is a great event to attend by yourself because your table mates will be changing throughout the meal. It works like this. At the restaurant, guests are seated around several different tables in the format of "male-female." After the first course, men switch tables; after the second course women switch tables. In doing so, all guests will have their "scenery" altered three times throughout the dinner. This means during each course, guests will be surrounded by new guests at each "switch". This is a perfect way to meet new & interesting people while enjoying a scrumptious dinner and trying out a celebrated Seattle restaurant! This is a recommended an event for SCM Newcomers too.
Due to the Washington State Liquor Law, we can not include alcoholic beverages in the ticket price. If you would like wine with dinner, please be prepared to purchase it separately.

Lock & Key Party, 30s and 40s July
Welcome to a VERY popular SCM event! It's called the Lock and Key Party!

The Lock and Key Party is a very interactive social mixing game where each person tries to find their matching hardware amongst the group of participants. It works like this . . . Every female attendee receives a lock. Every male attendee receives a key. The object is to find the Lock that fits the Key and the Key that fits the Lock!

This one will for a recommended age range. The age range for this is 30's and 40's!

For two hours, you try and meet each person at the event, getting to know them and of course, trying to match the lock and key. The object is to find as many -Matches- as possible. When you find a Match, you'll visit the Lock & Key Station, there you'll both enter your names into the Prize Drawing! Then you'll receive new Locks and Keys, and you'll go out again to try your new Hardware and find additional Matches. The more Matches that you find, the more times your name is entered into the Prize Drawing.

Come out and try a Lock & Key Party - you'll end the night with scores of new friends and possibly more. Come with friends or alone as soon as it starts, you will quickly be meeting people as the participants approach you. See for yourself what the excitement is all about!

Snow Lake Hike     Summer Hike!
Here is another outdoor hike!

Snow Lake is the largest (more than a mile long) of the alpine lakes in the Alpine Lakes Winderness area of Snoqualmie Pass, and its trail is one of the most popular in the NW. The Snow Lake trail begins at the Alpental ski area and stays fairly level through the trees for 1.5 miles. The trail then gets steeper with numerous switchbacks through various terrain, trees, rock gardens and cliffs till you reach a saddle at 3 miles, then it decends for about 1/2 mile to Snow Lake. We will stop for a long lunch and to enjoy the extremely pistureque views at the lake.

DIFFICULTY:
Moderate (Mountaineers rating). Hikers have a responsibility to be in adequate physical condition for the hike.
Trail length: 7 mi round-trip.
Elevation gain: 1100 ft gain in (700 ft gain out).
Hiking time: 5-6 hours round-trip to Snow Lake, including time for lunch.

WHAT TO BRING & WEAR:
10 Essentials that the Mountaineers recommend: extra clothing/food, sunglasses, knife, firestarter/matches, flashlight, compass, map, first aid kit, and a pack to hold your gear. Hiking boots (w/ hi-tops to provide ankle support), sunscreen & bug repellant highly recommended, and bring LOTS of water to avoid getting heat stroke, esp if the weather is as hot as it has been lately. (recommend a minimum 1 liter, couple liters to be safe), though this amount varies per person. And pack a hearty lunch!

CARPOOL:
Carpools will be decided at the Park and Ride. Drivers will be compensated for their gas money ($6.00 ea) as long as driver takes at least 3 passengers.

Since we are hiking, we have to include waivers. Please print out and sign this waiver: waiver - hand it to the Organizer when you arrive.

Maps with driving directions will be provided by the organizer at the Park-n-Ride. We will carpool from the Park-n-Ride to the hiking spot. Parking passes will be provided, passengers will offer carpool driver some money for gas. Volunteers for carpool drivers are being acecepted!

Bryon is the SCM Host for this hike. If you have any questions regarding the hike, please send him an email: fibnok@gmail.com

Pub Mixer at Stix!
Welcome to Space City Mixer's signature and longest running event!
It's called the "Pub Mixer" and it's simple: each month we pick a new bar and then we meet up for cocktails and conversation! It's simple, it's free. It's an easy way to meet new SCM members and try a new bar.

The location for this month is Stix Billiards & Brew on Lake Union.
Outfitted with plush leather sofas, low-hanging lamps and 10 pool tables, this classic billiards hall on Lake Union caters to 20- and 30-something young professionals seeking to revisit their college days. An on-site microbrewery, displayed at the end of the bar, provides a selection of house pints with pool-themed names like Rack 'Em Red and Bank Shot Bitter. The menu features tried-and-true standards like burgers, deli sandwiches and snack-worthy appetizers....it also has a sweeping and beautiful view of Lake Union.

BACKGROUND: This is a monthly, free event and one of SCM's more unstructured offerings. Essentially we select a bar, everyone shows up on the date and then we order a cocktail and socialize with those around us. It's often over 100 people. This is a great event for someone who likes lots of people but if you are a newcomer and prefer more structure for your first SCM event, you might consider one of our other events (Red Table Dinners, Women's Brunches, Game Nights, etc).

An SCM Organizer will also be standing at a table near the entrance. If you're new and/or have questions about SCM, come on by. We'd love to meet you and introduce you to some other guests. Also, if you haven't heard yet...all newcomers get a small star to wear (we hand them out). So if you see a newcomer wearing a star, make sure to introduce yourself and say hello - I'm sure they'd appreciate a friendly hello!

The rest of the evening is enjoyed around a lively table, consuming what we've prepared and getting to know each other. There's plenty of food for everyone. This isn't exactly a cooking class rather a team cooking adventure with Anita as the background consultant! Serving time is usually around 9 but can run a little later depends on the progress of the "cooks."

Mmmmm come join us for an evening of team cooking, group dining and great fun! Dinner is served around 9ish depending on how quickly the preparation goes. And there's a cat in the house in case anyone is allergic.

Womens Waterfront Brunch (Aug)
Just the women for this one! Catch up on your girl talk and meet some other interesting women! Join us at Anthony's Homeport in Shilshole on the scenic waterfront for a late morning brunch. Pre-mingling time will start at 10:30; we will be seated for a tasty brunch overlooking the water at 11:00 am.
This brunch is open to everyone!

When:  Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008 at 10:30 AM (10:30 AM Mingling / 11:00 AM Brunch)
Cost:  $29.95 Includes Kalani Coffee, assorted muffins, breakfast entree (served with fresh fruit and toast), price includes gratuity & tax.

Sunset Sail on the Obsession (Aug)

If you bring enough to share, you'll find yourself a very popular person on the boat ride! Again, it's not required just for those who want to.

This sailing trip is three hours long and is perfect for groups of friends, couples, and singles as you will all have plenty of time and room to move about the boat and meet folks!

TIPS:
It is colder out on the boat than on land. You will be very happy if you bring a warm jacket even if it looks sunny during the day. It's also helpful to dress in layers. There will be a small area to store jackets and bags in the downstairs cabin.
Depending on the wind, the boat can sway from side to side, wear flat heels (not high heels).
For some reason, people get really hungry when they sail. We suggest eating a full meal before you arrive. We'll have snacks on the boat but most people appreciate something more substantial.
PLEASE ALLOW ENOUGH TIME TO PARK AT THE PIER. It's Summer so there are tourists, and parking & traffic are heavier than usual.

WHAT TO BRING:
Warm jacket (even if it's a warm day, bring a jacket - the wind makes it cold).
Bottle of wine, beer or soft drink
Sunglasses - nice to have

Parking can be easy or a challenge depending on the events at the pier that day, please allow plenty of time to find a spot. Sorry, the boat will not wait for latecomers - we need to give everyone their full 3-hour ride.

Eastside Mingle at Ultra Lounge!

Hike to Snow Lake

When:  Saturday, Sep. 13, 2008 at 8:45 AM Meet at the Issaquah Park & Ride at 8:45 am, Depart at 9:00 am sharp.
Cost:  $15.00 (Includes bottled water, granola bar, all required permits, gas money for carpoolers and your Host) Only PayPal payments are being accepted for the hikes - the reason is that we've found it's the only way to control an exact limit on the sign up's. Otherwise we don't know how many checks are still in the mail when it sells out. Sorry for the inconvenience.
