The Summer Blind Taste (July)!

"The Blind Taste!"
Join us for an evening of delicious tastes at the Islander!
This is an informal wine tasting, grape guessing (no experience necessary), speedy dating and delicious dinner all in one! WOW!

This is how it works: Each guest brings a bottle of their favorite, yet affordable, WHITE WINE to the event. At the event, each person will be seated at a long table: women on one side, men on the other.

** Appetizers/Pupus will be served from 6:30pm-7pm. **
Vietnamese Summer Salad Rolls, Vegetables, Rice Vermicelli, Peanuts, Herbs Wrapped in Rice Crepe, Nuoc Cham Dipping Sauce

By 7 o'clock we will start the fun! Each person sitting across from the other will pour their partner a sip of their wine.
We will be pouring 1oz servings to make sure that we have enough wine for everyone to taste :)
The person will then try to guess the type of grape of the wine (bottles will be covered). By grape we mean Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio/Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling etc. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! This is just a fun activity and a way for everyone to join in!color> Those who guess correctly will receive a point.
Then for the next two minutes, both parties will have a chance to ask each other questions from a pre-compiled list of questions (already provided) so you get to know the person sitting across from you enjoying your pick of wine. Then, time is called and the men will move down and everyone will find themselves in front of a new partner ready to guess their type of grape again! This is an animated, lively and fun event! It's a great way to taste many different wines and it's a Guess & Mix game since you'll be meeting people up and down the long table, exchanging your favorite wines and getting to know each other!
At approximately 8:30 pm, the game will end, the points will be tallied (therell be a prize for the highest earner!) and then we'll all collect our remaining wine and head to into the dining room to enjoy a delicious dinner together!

color> The Restaurant:
The cuisine originated from Asia and passes through the islands presenting unique and contemporary variations. Asian influenced preparation styles bring a bounty of flavor to each creation.
Retro Art featured within the restaurant and Tiki Lounge evokes the feeling of travel to Tahiti or Hawaii before the crowds found out.
The originality of the food and the ambiance of The Islander provides a winning combination that is unlike any other available in Seattle.

Hurry! We did this event a few years ago - it was a ton of fun and it sold out fast!

Please remember to arrive with your WHITE wine bottle in a covering of some sort (a bag will do) so no one sees what kind it is!
Please also bring a wine bottle opener so we don't lose time opening bottles!

Lock & Key Party, 30s 40s (Eastside!)

** You've asked for it, we are offering it! A Lock & Key event held on the Eastside! **

Welcome to a VERY popular SCM event! It's called the Lock and Key Party! LNK_Rotating_withwebsite.gif

The Lock and Key Party is a very interactive social mixing game where each person tries to find their matching hardware amongst the group of participants. It works like this . . . Every female attendee receives a lock. Every male attendee receives a key. The object is to find the Lock that fits the Key and the Key that fits the Lock!

This one will be for a recommended age range. The age range for this is 30's and 40's.

For two hours, you try and meet each person at the event, getting to know them and of course, trying to match the lock and key. The object is to find as many -Matches- as possible. When you find a Match, you'll visit the Lock & Key Station, there you'll both enter your names into the Prize Drawing! Then you'll receive new Locks and Keys, and you'll go out again to try your new Hardware and find additional Matches. The more Matches that you find, the more times your name is entered into the Prize Drawing.

You will not go away from this event only meeting a few people...here, you will have the opportunity to meet them all! Come out and try a Lock & Key Party - you'll end the night with scores of new friends and possibly more. Come with friends or alone as soon as it starts, you will quickly be meeting people as the participants approach you. See for yourself what the excitement is all about!

Snow Lake Hike   * SOLD OUT *

The hikes are very popular this Summer so here is another... This one is being organized and lead by Belle & Shari!

Snow Lake is the largest (more than a mile long) of the alpine lakes in the Alpine Lakes Winderness area of Snoqualmie Pass, and its trail is one of the most popular in the NW. The Snow Lake trail begins at the Alpental ski area and stays fairly level through the trees for 1.5 miles. The trail then gets steeper with numerous switchbacks through various terrain, trees, rock gardens and cliffs till you reach a saddle at 3 miles, then it decends for about 1/2 mile to Snow Lake. We'll stop to eat our lunches and to enjoy the extremely pistureque views at the lake.

Difficulty:
Moderate (Mountaineers rating). Hikers have a responsibility to be in adequate physical condition for the hike. Trail length: 7 mi round-trip. Elevation gain: 1100 ft gain in (700 ft gain out). Hiking time: 5-6 hours round-trip to Snow Lake, including time for lunch.

What to Bring/wear:
10 Essentials that the Mountaineers recommend: extra clothing/food, sunglasses, knife, firestarter/matches, flashlight, compass, map, first aid kit, and a pack to hold your gear. Hiking boots (w/ hi-tops to provide ankle support), sunscreen & bug repellant highly recommended, and bring LOTS of water to avoid getting heat stroke, esp if the weather is as hot as it'ss been lately. (recommend min 1 liter, couple liters to be safe), though this amt varies per person. And pack a hearty lunch! Since we're hiking, we have to include waivers. Please print out and sign this waiver: waiver - hand it to the Organizers when you arrive. Maps with driving directions will be provided by the organizer at the Park-n-Ride. We will carpool from the Park-n-Ride to the hiking spot. Parking passes will be provided, passengers will offer carpool driver some money for gas. Volunteers for carpool drivers are being acecepted!

Tennis Tournament - Doubles!   * SOLD OUT *

We're going to have a tennis tournament in Greenlake! The game will be doubles. We'll alternate partners for each set and have a winner at the end with the highest individual score.
Rules:
It's Doubles Tennis. Each player will play 3 sets each. Doubles partners will alternate for each set. Each person will be given the score of their last set.
